Works updates

The light rail construction process will involve several stages and work fronts. GoldLinQ will use a combination of communication methods - newspaper advertising, letter box drops and door knocking – including this website to ensure impacted residents, businesses and motorists can prepare, park and move within these key Gold Coast precincts during construction.

    Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise - Surfers Paradise Boulevard closed Clifford Street to Thornton Street - 1 February 2013

From Thursday 7 February 2013, Surfers Paradise Boulevard will be closed to southbound through traffic for up to four months to facilitate construction between Clifford Street and Thornton Street.

    Traffic changes

Local access to residential driveways will be maintained via east to west movements on Thornton Street, Vista Street, Enderley Avenue and Markwell Avenue during construction. New traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Clifford Street and Northcliffe Terrace. Hamilton Avenue will be closed to Surfers Paradise Boulevard for up to two months during construction. Access to Hamilton Avenue from the Gold Coast Highway and the Esplanade will be maintained.

To facilitate track laying, the intersection of Markwell Avenue will be closed to all traffic for up to two weeks. Track laying at the intersections of Thornton Street, Vista Street and Enderley Avenue will be undertaken in stages to maintain vehicle access. Affected businesses and residents will receive notification prior to changes.

Alternative routes and redirections will be signed. Please drive to the conditions at all times during construction as points of access, temporary lane closures and changes to traffic flow will occur.

    What to expect

    • Installation of safety barriers, fencing and banner mesh to contain the construction area.
    • Heavy machinery, such as excavation and crane movements to facilitate construction activities.
    • Construction will involve relocating services, above and below ground, such as gas, water and electricity, and upgrading storm water drainage.
    • Temporary service outages will occur and will be managed by the appropriate service provider. Affected premises will be notified prior to outages occurring in line with current legislated requirements.
    • Pedestrian access routes will be maintained around the construction area (see map). Temporary footpath closures near the active work area will occur and alternative routes will be signed.
    • Construction noise, dust and vibration at times. Every effort will be made to minimise these impacts.
    • Foundation and track laying along the western side of Surfers Paradise Boulevard.
    • The majority of construction work will be carried out between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday.
    • Timing of this work is subject to weather and construction conditions.
    • Night works will be required. Affected businesses and residents will be notified in advance.

For further information please see the attached construction notice.
